Karmelina’s love for house music flourished in Greece during the early 90s. She has been spinning since 1993 and has played at numerous clubs and parties around the world, as well as hosted successful dance shows on the radio. Karmelina's style ranges from deep and vocal to soulful and tech house. She tends to get happy when people clap their hands and dance around. Occasionally, she has taken on trip-hop and downtempo residencies. Karmelina has appeared at events in the U.S, Canada and Spain, in addition to playing in Greece. Karmelina has also appeared several times on Greek National TV, Off-Broadway in NYC, various magazines and radio shows. The Village Voice and Time Out New York have often selected her events as not to be missed. She also contributes music reviews and articles to a variety of publications and is a member of female music collectives such as Sister DJs, SHEJAY and Female Pressure. Recently, Karmelina won the Women Who Rock the Numark turntables DJ competition in New York City. She appeared in Women Who Rock magazine, as well as the Numark DJ catalog/website. Karmelina has also
served as an editor at MTV.COM during the late 90s where she contributed articles about
the electronic dance scene in the United States on a local and national
level. Some of her interviews appeared on AMP and AMP Online, MTV's electronic
music show at the time. Later, Karmelina moved on to produce popular MTV websites such as the
Video Music Awards, Real World, Road Rules, House of Style, as well as a variety of Video Game and UFC digital content for Spike. She recently completed a Master’s Degree in Media Studies [design+technology] with most of her work focusing on culture and technology. She continues to produce digital content when she is not playing with records or drinking coffee. |
